Well. Well, well. Had my first systematic exposure to Babylon 5 this evening, courtesy of kviri and frozencapybara. This represented a significant improvement over catching two random (not-great) episodes from Season One sans context on telly however many years ago it was.

I'm not sure I'm going to become a complete die-hard, but I can now at least understand the appeal of the show to so many of my friends, and I'm interested to see how it continues (especially since I'm told it improves). I'm glad kviri suggested this as something to interleave with regular movie-nights.

(That said, I still really want to show them Fight Club soon.)

Oh, they haven't seen Fight Club yet? Yes, you must expose them to it.

Mmmm, yeah. B5 tends to be good, and it becomes very good toward the third and fourth season. Season 5 is okay, but was tacked on after they discovered that they weren't being cancelled after all, after all the really important stuff was wrapped up in season 4.

There are some memorable bits, but to mention then would be spoilers. 8)

yes it definitely improves....
i was very systematically and persistently exposed to B5 and am now, in fact, a die-hard.

I think the first time I ever saw it was at your apartment in Worcester, actually - but of course it was a random episode sans context so it did not excite.

I'm glad you have been properly exposed. heee.
