DVD Empire's list of $4.99 Fox DVDs includes the Melanie Griffith classic Shining Through. From my own (*shudder*) experience of the film, I figure that price is still at least $20 too expensive, and I suspect that these gentlemen might agree:
“I know it’s only a movie, and so perhaps I should be willing to suspend my disbelief, but Shining Through is such an insult to the intelligence that I wasn’t able to do that.”
   —Roger Ebert

“If the fate of the free world were being threatened by goose-stepping Nazis, who would you send to the rescue? In Shining Through they send Melanie Griffith. What, you mean Betty Boop wasn’t available?”
   —Hal Hinson

“[Griffith] sounds like a 7-year-old reciting poetry for the delight of grown-ups. It’s enough to make you want to turn her in to the Nazis.”
   —Desson Howe

Yeah, well, I snagged four of the cheap DVDs, too. Just not Shining Through.  :-)

I haven't seen the movie (and will now note to avoid it at all costs). But these reviews remind me of the old urban legend (snopes says it's not true, but it's still funny).

There was a production of The Diary of Anne Frank at some theatre starring Pia Zadora. As you know, she's Melanie Griffith fantastic. Anyway ... she just sucked. And in the 2nd act, when the Nazis come in and ask "Where is she? Where is Anne Frank?", the whole audience yells back "She's in the attic!"

I love that story. It should be true, damnit.  :-)
