And just to add to the charm of this 24-hour period, my boiler appears to have latched up during the night, leaving the house at 55° F. and dropping. Lurvely.

The service tech should be here "some time this morning"; in the meantime, maybe I'll go sit by the oven again. Gweeping is more satisfying, but it's hard to type with my gloves on.

Edit: On the other hand, at least I haven't been killed by a tree branch in a freak road accident, so maybe I'll just simmer down to a low whine. Poor bastard.

Edit II: Service tech arrived ~10:45am, which isn't too bad a response time for a 7:30am distress call. And he's not swearing in puzzlement, which I figure is a good sign.

Edit III:Apparently I spoke too soon. An electronic part had died; the tech didn't have a spare with him, so he had to drive out to Malden to get a new one, which took an extra while. But it should all be set now; the house isn't warm yet, but it's about 60° F. and rising, so things are moving in the right direction. Soon I'll be able to type at full speed again...
