The PA system aboard the old USS Seawolf (SSN-575) had a similar system that announced various canned conditions (the ship is diving, the ship is surfacing, certain anticipated emergencies) in what the Navy thought would be a pleasant, soothing woman's voice. The crews who served during Seawolf's long career knew her as "the Bitch in the Box."

(Seawolf also had the best nickname in the Navy: For spending so much time tied up at the pier in Groton while the Electric Boat guys tried to address various and sundry of her near-innumerable design flaws, she became known as "Building 575".)
