According to IMDb's studio news column today, the extended versions of all three Lord of the Rings films will be released to cinemas in the UK and Denmark (and presumably elsewhere, too) in October 2004.

Frankly, given that the full extended-version trilogy will run for just over eleven-and-a-half hours (208 minutes for the extended Fellowship of the Ring, 223 minutes for the extended Two Towers, 250 minutes for the extended Return of the King), I think watching at home on DVD — with the handy PAUSE button — may still be preferable.

I had to get up and pee about a million times during the unextended Return of the King. I managed to suppress the urge until after the movie, but I think I did permanent damage to my bladder. :)

Oh, I feel your pain. I kept waiting for a lull so I could go have a quick slash, but the film was singularly lacking in lulls.

At least one cinema in the UK showed Return of the King with an intermission, in the style of old roadshow pictures. I approve heartily.

Well, watching it at _your_ home, with the handy PAUSE button and the huge-ass screen and the massive speakers. :-)
