It has, reluctantly, to be admitted that the newly-fucked-with DVDs of the first three Star Wars films do indeed look better than the old non-fucked-with laserdiscs.

But looks aren't everything.

Sabastian Shaw and Clive Revill would probably like to be remembered for their contributions to making the movie. Its things like their edited removal that seems like horrible idea.

In all fairness, Shaw is still in Jedi: his face (minus the eyebrows), his voice, his performance. He's been replaced only in the silent final sequence. And he's still credited as Anakin Skywalker.

And Clive Revill is still credited as “Voice of the Emperor” in Empire despite having been replaced by Ian McDiarmid.
