It's my understanding that if you have something even as braindead as a XOR "encryption" in your product, "cracking" it can be a violation of the DMCA.

That's my understanding of the (dumb) current status of the law, too.

Incidentally, you should note that this reply, along with all my other LJ posts and comments, is encrypted — sorry, ahem, "encrypted" — with double-ROT13 encryption. So any copying of this post represents a bypassing of encryption, DMCA violation, yadda yadda hey.

(I wonder if you could actually get away with this claim in court. I mean, double-ROT13 is stupid, but as you say, there's apparently no requirement that it be effective encryption.)
